Fretting timing accuracy

emuso app showing a C major scale and the rhythmic grid to create a pattern

Jerry

This exercise shows up weaknesses in timing in different fingers. The same scale fragment is played as 1/16th notes, with 16 notes in the bar. This uses C major. The idea is to choose any of the sixteen notes, and from there descend the fragment (unless the lowest pitched note is chosen for the starting note). When the lowest note is reached, reverse (don’t repeat the lowest note), and ascend all the way to the highest note. Reverse direction there. After playing 16 notes, you will be back at the chosen starting note.

Use the metronome, with a click on the quarter note.

By shifting the starting pointing, you will discover if any of your fingers are mistiming when its note should be played.
